Project Negotiation Training

Project teams are often formed by putting together individuals from disparate groups from both within and outside an organization. More often than not, individual participants on a project team have different priorities and concerns that may not necessarily be in harmony with the needs to the team. This is most often the case when employees from two companies, such as when a vendor and a client are working together on a project, must cooperate to meet deadlines or particular requirements. While many project teams function effectively, some are so rife with conflict that they fail to serve the purpose for which they were formed. Our Project Negotiation Training workshop teaches project team members how to deal with difficult situations and utilizes negotiation skills to help teams work more effectively to achieve desired results.

The Project Negotiation Training workshop focuses on the ability to understand and utilize principled negotiations skills via repeated practice and highly effective negotiation training concepts. Built around the time-tested philosophy of principled negotiations – a concept that seeks to build a positive and rewarding outcome for all parties involved – our negotiation training workshop teaches participants how to focus on common interests when working with other team members on internal or external projects. Our highly participatory two-day negotiations training program utilizes multiple training concepts to reinforce the learning process. Role playing, group discussions, exercises, personal assessments and lectures reinforce the classroom environment. Our negotiations training seminar teaches project team members to be prepared handle any difficult situation, regardless of cause or consequence. Exercises ensure skills usage and transfer. As a result of attending this workshop, project team members will be able to negotiate for resources, defuse conflict, handle unrealistic expectations and deal with disparate interests that may impede project success.

Project Negotiation Training participants will learn to:

  • Deal with conflict that can arise on a project team
  • Plan for discussions centered around a problematic situation
  • Increase effectiveness when handling negotiations in person or on the phone
  • Overcome obstacles that may impede project success
  • Understand how to communicate more effectively with people
  • Flex their personal negotiation style based on verbal and physical cues
  • Strengthen rapport and build chemistry
  • Focus on interests and issues that lead to common goals and agreement
  • Apply questioning skills to determine attitudes, situations and priorities
  • Identify areas of concern and recommend appropriate solutions
  • Recognize and defuse dishonest tactics
  • Handle negotiations in an ethical manner that strengthens relationships
  • Increase satisfaction and work towards positive outcomes
  • Strengthen project team cooperation during negotiations

"The portions of the program that I enjoyed the most were the instructor, the learning styles, and the feedback from the role playing exercises was very relaxed yet instructional. I felt that this was a very valuable seminar to attend, the information being taken away will be very useful."
